EOE - Eosinophilic esophagitis

EOE = Eosinophilic Ösophagitis

Meaning

Immune-mediated inflammation of the esophagus, usually triggered by allergens (e.g. food, environmental factors, etc.). This inflammation can lead to pain and/or difficulty swallowing. Recognition and subsequent treatment is important, as prolonged untreated EOE can lead to permanent scarring of the oesophagus.
