HIN - high grade intraepithelial neoplasia

Long designation

HIN = high grade intraepithelial neoplasia = HGIEN ≈ high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia

Meaning

Histological assessment of autonomously growing tissue (e.g. polyp or metaplasia) by pathology. A HIN is characterized by higher-grade changes, but is not yet a "malignant" carcinoma. In the case of a colon polyp, the follow-up interval for the next examination is correspondingly shorter than for a LIN.
