Abbreviations
EUS - Endoscopic ultrasound
Long designation
EUS = Endoscopic Ultraschall ≈ Endosonography
Meaning
Combination of an endoscopy device with an ultrasound probe so that organs can be examined from the inside of the intestine at close range. The resolution is many times higher than with ultrasound from the outside. In this way, a target tissue (organ or tumor) can be evaluated more precisely (good vs. malignant) and, if necessary, tissue can be obtained directly through a puncture. EUS is only performed at cooperating hospitals and is arranged directly by me.
Typical questions (examples)
- Spatial mass or irregularity of the pancreas
- Unclear obstruction of the bile ducts, e.g., stone or tumor
- Tumor under the mucosa (= SET = submucosal tumor)
- Determination of the depth of carcinomas.
