GERD = gastroesophageal reflux disease ≈ Gastroesophageal reflux

Meaning

Visible inflammation in the endoscopy due to the reflux of gastric acid into the esophagus. If there is no inflammation, this is also referred to as NERD (non-erosive reflux disease).

A symptom of both diseases is heartburn, i.e. a burning pain behind the breastbone
